Portsmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower, a landmark of the South soaring 170m above sea level, has appointed Polymedia as PR consultants with a focus on media. 

The tower overlooks Portsmouth Harbour and offers spectacular 23-mile views for thousands of visitors each year.  Its team sought support with messaging and media on a number of fronts, including attracting visitors from across the UK and further afield, and highlighting its unique position in the heart of the Portsmouth community. 

The campaign follows a number of innovations and investments at the tower, owned by Portsmouth City Council and operated by Continuum Attractions, including improvements to its Café in the Clouds, the creation of an open-air sky garden, the redesign of its guest welcome area, and accessibility improvements. 

Polymedia’s work has also supported aspects of the tower’s work including fundraising for good causes through its regular Light Up Nights, subsidised abseiling to support charities, and its involvement with community projects. 

Coverage has been wide-ranging, raising awareness of activity including the tower’s support for Portsmouth Pride, the launch of a £25 annual pass for locals, the tower’s arrival as a patron of the community interest company Shaping Portsmouth, the launch of a vegan high tea offering, and events for key times such as Halloween and Christmas.  

Alongside media, Polymedia has supported Spinnaker Tower with campaign planning, interactions with social media influencers, and awards. A submission for Tourism South East’s Beautiful South Awards, which celebrate the cream of the crop of tourism, leisure and hospitality businesses from across the region, resulted in the attraction being named as a finalist in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year category.
