Reaching stakeholders, investors and influencers and drawing attention to a range of cutting-edge technologies were part of the strategic approach for Ploughshare, the technology transfer organisation for the Ministry of Defence.

As the organisation’s retained PR consultants, we have helped bring Ploughshare’s groundbreaking work to a wider audience through traditional and online media.

Ploughshare enables businesses to gain access to a wide range of innovations developed by leading Government laboratories, including the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). The organisation ensures Government technology is put to good use to the benefit of society.

The most high profile of these is a groundbreaking test for sepsis. Originally researched by Dstl as a potential way of saving lives on the front line, the test is thought to be able to predict the onset of potentially life-threatening sepsis up to three days before symptoms appear.

The test is now being developed by Ploughshare spin-out company Presymptom Health, which believes it could save billions of pounds globally and improve clinical outcomes for sepsis patients.

Polymedia supported Ploughshare and Presymptom Health with the announcement that the test is now undergoing trials at Portsmouth’s Queen Alexandra Hospital – news that generated significant interest. Within a week the story had generated 14 pieces of coverage with an estimated 700,000 online coverage views, including front page and a spread in The News, TV coverage on South Today, pieces in Defence Online, Pharmacy Business, Health Business, and more.

Polymedia’s work with Ploughshare on previous announcements included news that chemical warfare detection technology was being adapted for use in the bakery sector by Arosa Instruments to help assess the risk of inhaling flour and grain dust linked to the debilitating condition known as ‘white lung’ or ‘baker’s asthma’.

This generated Thought leadership-style coverage in leading food industry publications including the flagship sector publication The Grocer, British Baker, and World Bakers.
